Uyvari has been a critical part of the Chicago sports scene since the 1970s. He has also played a role in the national gay bowling movement, helping host the IGBO tourney in Chicago, and playing in most of their tournaments. He also has competed in almost every Gay Games, and helped run the bowling tournament at Gay Games VII in Chicago in 2006. Uyvari and his partner Joe La Pat were key donors to the Gay Games in Chicago, including helping to underwrite the scholarship program. They are also key donors to numerous gay and AIDS groups, including Center on Halsted. [Dick Uyvari died Sept. 2, 2015.]
