Basta and partner Terri Worman work on gay political and seniors issues. Worman is Manager of State Operations for AARP Illinois, working on advocacy, education, and community service. She is a trainer, facilitator and presenter.

She is on the American Society on Aging’s Lesbian Gay Aging Issues Network ( LGAIN ) - chair of the editorial board for OutWord ( include writing for it ) ; co-chair of Clearinghouse Project; and member of the Leadership Council. She has been involved with Chicago NOW ( including chair of Lesbian committee, early 1990s ) . She is trainer and co-coordinator of the Escort Program ( assist at abortion clinics against anti-choice protesters ) for the Illinois Prochoice Alliance. She is Co-Chair of the Chicago Task Force on LGBT Aging.
