Nasim was born in Pakistan and has been active on gay South Asian issues in Chicago. He has written books as an openly gay Pakistani and been threatened as a result. He hosts a radio show and is a media spokesperson on a variety of issues impacting Southeast Asian gay men. He founded Sangat/Chicago for Southeast Asian gay men, and Sangat networks with other Asan gay and lesbian groups.

Nasim writes: "Chicago has a very diverse GLBT community. But as a foreigner and a man of color I faced very different kind of discrimination from white and Black community which I mentioned in my poetry book "myrmecophile" which is part of the curriculum of Truman College. Also Myrmecophile is included in the GBT literature for the past 50 years compiled by John Howley at Santa Clara University California.

Out and Proud in Chicago: An Overview of the City's Gay Community, the book is edited by Tracy Baim and features the contributions of more than 20 prominent historians and journalists. It is published by Surrey Books, an Agate imprint, and is hard cover, 224 pages, 4-color, with nearly 400 photos.
