Katz is an Associate Judge, Circuit Court of Cook County, sitting in Domestic Relations Division. She has been active on lesbian and gay issues since the 1970s. At age 16, she began working on a drug crisis hotline at Alternatives, Inc. which was a drug abuse prevention program for youth. We all were very involved in the lesbian community. She states: "We [ she and her roommates ] were part of the founding members of WICCA ( Women in Crisis Can Act ) , a women’s hotline service, and I can recall many meetings in our living room. I also volunteered at the Women’s Center, which shortly thereafter became the Lesbian-Feminist Center ( LFC ) , which was on Halsted Street. We were involved in the women’s music scene, bringing artists like Alix Dobkin and Meg Christian to Chicago to perform."
