Dwight Okita is an openly gay Japanese American writer in Chicago. Okita's first novel The Prospect of My Arrival advanced to the Top 10 Semi-Finalists in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. It is set in the near future when the first baby will be allowed to preview the world before deciding to be born. His published works include his poetry book Crossing with the Light and his stage play The Rainy Season, printed in Asian American Drama. He is an active member of i2i ( Invisible to Invincible ... www.chicagoi2i.org ) a group which provides a safe space for queer Asian Americans. Okita's website is dwightland.homestead.com.

Out and Proud in Chicago: An Overview of the City's Gay Community, the book is edited by Tracy Baim and features the contributions of more than 20 prominent historians and journalists. It is published by Surrey Books, an Agate imprint, and is hard cover, 224 pages, 4-color, with nearly 400 photos.
